Hottttt

Ugh why does it have to be this hot!?!?  Not much to report on today.  We've been plugging away at our long list of things to do.  :)

We have been removing the dead foliage now that the tulips are done for the year.

Bunnies

We seem to be overrun with bunnies in the garden!  They are munching on everything.  We weeded quite a bit today and also spread more mulch.  We have had to deadhead a lot of things recently.  I still can't believe it's almost July!

Luncheon

After the tour this week, we had lunch with Bill Ganzlin and his tour group.  It was delicious and we would like to thank Bill for inviting us!!

The mulching is so close to being done!!! Much weeding is needed now and the plant identification labels have to be completed.  There are three large projects that we are going to start working on as well.  The herb mountain needs to be redone.  Oregano and mint have taken over!  Dave has some interesting plans for the raised area by the crab apple trees.  So you'll be seeing us digging things up, pulling things out, and adding a few things as well.  Be prepared!

The Rose Family

The rose is a rose,
And was always a rose.
But the theory now goes
That the apple's a rose,
And the pear is, and so's
The plum, I suppose.
The dear only know
What will next prove a rose.
You, of course, are a rose--
But were always a rose.

Double Banana and a Bird

Everything has been going (and growing) great these past few days.  We have been fighting the weeds, though.  I was vigorously pulling thistles when a baby robin suddenly leaped out of the lilac next to me!  I didn't realize that it was a baby until I saw that it really couldn't fly.  It started jumping towards the road so I decided that it would be in the poor guy's favor if I caught him and put him back into the garden.  I chased him down and managed to grab him.  I had my gloves on so hopefully not much of my scent ended up on him.  When I put him back his mom flew in with a mouthful of worms.  She sat on one of the crab apple trees and chirped at me in what I would assume was bird for a lot of ranting.  I had Dave take a picture of the baby before I set it back down.

With the birds, the fish, and the rabbits, we have quite the diverse assortment of animals visiting and living in the garden.

Dave brought in a sweet double banana to lunch one day.  I tried looking up the causes of this but sadly I didn't find anything.

Fun fact: Onions contain a mild antibiotic that fights infections, soothes burns, tames bee stings and relieves the itch of athletes foot.

Strange Weather

The weather must have a sense of humor.  It rained this morning and then the sun came out--but wait!  More rain!  We've really been trying to get everything tidied up before we start a few new projects in the garden.  I'm happy to say that almost all of the mulching is done!  There are just a few spots here and there that need mulch.  It really helps us control the weeds.
We have been receiving a lot of compliments from visitors and we appreciate them!!  It's nice to know that our hard work is paying off.  One of the goals was to reclaim parts of the garden that had gotten overgrown.  Now that we've done that in a few places (trimmed things back), it is beginning to give us some opportunities to make changes here and there.  Hopefully our visitors notice and enjoy the changes we plan on making.

Warm Weather

The last couple days have been so hot, but today was gorgeous!!  Tomorrow we're planning on mulching the walking paths all day.

We set up the tripod sprinkler.

Bug catchers!
